As we’ve recently discussed right here on the blog, hatchback vehicles consistently rank amongst one the most popular types of car in the UK, and has been for quite some time. (It’s just one of many reasons why we always take care to stock a great range of them in our own online vehicle auctions!) The popularity of hatchbacks has been spearheaded by one or two models in particular - they’re probably familiar names already, but have you ever wondered why?
Ford Fiesta
Yes, the Ford Fiesta remains at the top - no surprise there! First designed and engineered in Europe, for years it’s been one of the UK’s most popular cars, mostly because it exemplifies everything we love about hatchbacks. Take your pick. Is it the superb style? Maybe it’s the great range of engines it offers, or maybe it’s the reliability and peace of mind that provides, making it a popular choice for families and single drivers alike. It’s certainly aptly named - it’s quite the party on wheels.
Vauxhall Corsa
Another hatchback that makes regular appearances in top ten lists the world over, and one of the UK’s favourite cars right after the Ford Fiesta. It first made its debut in 1982, and incredibly it’s managed to consistently improve on itself with each successive iteration.
Today, some models will give you as much as 80 miles to the gallon, and they come with a great range of in-car tech - amongst the favourite features for buyers are cruise control, heated front seats (always welcome in winter!), as well as front and rear parking sensors to help drivers avoid a nasty prang. The cabin also has USB and Bluetooth connectivity, so you can stay connected while out on the roads.
Volkswagen Golf
Described as the hottest in hatchbacks, and boy doesn’t the Golf live up to that reputation. It’s a timeless favourite for families and young adults alike, with the sheer range of choices being quite a big draw. Buyers can choose between body styles (like a 5 door hatchback or a wagon), as well as a range engine sizes, so they can tailor their preferences around power, performance and fuel economy. Ever since the inception of the Volkswagen Golf, it’s fair to say that it’s traded quite heavily on the reputation of classic German engineering and reliability, but in fairness it performs well on that score too! Today there are diesel, petrol and even hybrid versions available, so you’ll never be short of choice when looking for a Volkswagen Golf that suits your tastes. It just goes to show why it’s still one of the best selling cars in Europe!
That’s not all you’ll find in our online car auctions, of course - but should give you a good idea of where to start! We’ve got makes and models from the likes of Mercedes, Peugeot, Renault, and many more. Why not take a look around, and see what you can find?
